Church of St Nicholas in Wilków

Add to the planner

The first mentions of the church date back to 1290. The Gothic masonry church underwent a number of expansions in later centuries. In 1564 a steeple was added, but – along with 80% of the church – it was eventually destroyed during World War II. The church was rebuilt several decades after the war, but without the characteristic steeple. The two side altars were built later; one has a painting of St Stanislaus the Bishop, while the other has a painting of Our Lady of Częstochowa. The most interesting sculptures inside the church are the statue of Christ on the Mount of Olives from the first half of the 16th century, and the Ecce Homo statue of Christ dated to the 15th century. Other valuable items include the statue of St John of Nepomuk from the 18th century, and some allegorical sculptures: a putto with an hourglass and a putto with a skull, originating from the turn of the 17th and 18th century.
